On Sept. 21, the Lions Club International will launch its first-ever Bridgeville chapter.
Between now and then, the club is looking for a few more area residents who are interested in giving back to the community by joining.
Lions Club representative Dan Hupp visited the August borough council meeting to explain what the club is and how its members help their neighborhoods.
Lions Clubs are volunteer service organizations dedicated to helping and improving their immediate communities. They are perhaps best known for their efforts to preserve eyesight and address preventable blindness.
When Helen Keller addressed the Lions international convention in 1925, she asked them to be “Knights of the Blind.”
They’re involved in lots of other charitable endeavors, too, from building wheelchair accessible ramps to helping out after disasters.
The new Greater Bridgeville Area Lions Club will serve the communities of the Chartiers Valley School District and, most likely, South Fayette.
