Local Churches Collaborate on MLK Celebration Set For Monday Night

January 18, 2019 By Tim McNellie

The coolest thing about the Martin Luther King Jr Day. celebration scheduled for Monday night at Solid Rock Revival Church isn’t that the event will pay tribute to the civil rights leader’s accomplishments.

Rather it’s that, in keeping with King’s message of brotherhood, the event is a collaboration among several Bridgeville-area churches.

Yes, the folks at First Baptist Church of Bridgeville might have different ideas regarding church hierarchy than the people attending Bethany Presbyterian.

And Solid Rock’s belief that immersion is the only true baptism might not mesh with Bower Hill Community Church’s take on how a person can be admitted to the Christian faith.

But on Monday, those four churches are working together not just to honor King, but to keep his dream alive.

“We think it’s valuable to return to the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King,” said Greg Jones, of First Baptist Church of Bridgeville. “For people not just to share the same space, not just to tolerate each other, but to live to help and support one another.”

The Dr. Martin Luther King Day Observance/Celebration is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Solid Rock Revival Church, 610 Dewey Ave [map].
